Care

Deerskin is a natural material and will wear in with use. Most of the time, it only needs a light wipe with a damp cloth to remove excess dirt or bird food.

If the surface starts to look dry, a small amount of leather care can be worked in with a soft cloth. Do not overdo it. A little is enough.

One of the most important things is to remove excess food after use, as this will help prevent the leather from hardening over time.

Each glove is handmade in our workshop rather than picked from stock. Most orders are dispatched within 2 to 4 weeks. If your order is likely to take longer, we’ll let you know.

The Barkston is a versatile single thickness falconry glove made for smaller falcons, hawks and similar birds.

It is designed to feel comfortable on the hand, allow free movement, and give the right amount of protection without unnecessary bulk.

Made from heavyweight deerskin in our workshop, it is a practical everyday glove. Made for falconers flying smaller hawks or falcons, or for those birds who aren't footy.

How to size your glove

Measure (in inches) around the widest part of your palm, as shown. Use that measurement to choose the nearest size from the options above.

Made for real falconry use

A falconry glove has to do more than look the part. It needs to give real protection, feel right on the hand, and stand up to regular use in the field.

We use heavyweight deerskin for our gloves because it offers enough protection but is still supple enough to allow free movement.

Years of flying birds of prey have shaped how these gloves are made, from the pattern and thickness through to the feel on the hand.
